Thumbelina

One of my favourite fairy tales growing up was "Thumbelina" by Hans Christian Andersen. Thumbelina was first published in 1835 and has since been adapted to various media including songs and animated films. This movie from 1994 remains my favourite animated movie to date. I still enjoy watching it because it brings back nostalgic childhood memories. There's something so enchanting and mesmorizing about this tale.

I just have to add one thing I realized today that's quite hilarious. I was watching the new season of American Idol with Nicki Minaj as one of the new judges today and I thought she reminded me of someone and then it hit me: the frog lady from Thumbelina!! Haha, they do look quite similar, don't they? They even have the same hair! (well, sometimes because Miss Minaj changes her hair as often as people change their socks)

Any other Thumbelina fans out there?

Same shirt, three different styles

I think a basic denim shirt is a great item to have in your everyday warderobe. Pair it with a funky legging, some cool shades, a great bag (loving this one from Alexander Wang) and black pumps for a day on the town. Or, if you prefer a more classic look, pair it with a skinny pant, some great golden accessorizes and a pair of simple black suade ankle boots. For a night out, the denim shirt looks great with a sequin mini, fringe suade bag (for a cool boho touch) and ankle boots with a little bit of heel.

When the worlds gone quiet I see you dancing slow

I know, I know, cuteness overload. But I couldn't help myself, they're just too darn cute! And sometimes we all need an extra dose of cuteness in our lives, don't you agree? ;)

Suvi Koponen

Suvi Koponen

Suvi Koponen by nina-lindqv on Polyvore

Finnish beauty Suvi Koponen is one of my favourite models and probably the most successful Finnish model ever. She started her modeling career in a tv show called "Mallikoulu" (Model school) when she was only 17 years old and won. Suvi has worked with top designers such as Vera Wang, Marc Jacobs, Donna Karan, Louis Vuitton and Blumarine and she's the new face of Chloé.

Materialistic Wish: Handbags

All roads they lead me here

"This is the last time I’m asking you this,
Put my name on the top of your list,
This is the last time I’m asking you why,
You break my heart in the blink of an eye."

I'm completely obsessed with this song right now. I'm not the biggest Taylor Swift fan and I've never understood how she could sell millions and millions of records worldwide. But in this song I really like her soft, country-pop voice, it has a little more rawness to it than I'm used to hearing in her other songs. But what really makes this song a stand-out for me is Gary Lightbody from Snow Patrol, one of my favourite bands ever. His voice is so unique and fragile yet powerful at the same time. "The Last Time" could easily be a Snow Patrol original, the sound is very similar to the band's sound, especially the instrumental bit. This will definitely be my go-to song when the stress of school and work catch up to me.

And if you're still breathing you're the lucky ones

Helsinki, sometimes I forget how beautiful you can be.

Shadows settle on the place, that you left.
Our minds are troubled by the emptiness.
Destroy the middle, it's a waste of time.
From the perfect start to the finish line.

And if you're still breathing, you're the lucky ones.
'Cause most of us are heaving through corrupted lungs.
Setting fire to our insides for fun
Collecting names of the lovers that went wrong
The lovers that went wrong.

We are the reckless,
We are the wild youth
Chasing visions of our futures
One day we'll reveal the truth
That one will die before he gets there.

And if you're still bleeding, you're the lucky ones.
'Cause most of our feelings, they are dead and they are gone.
We're setting fire to our insides for fun.
Collecting pictures from the flood that wrecked our home,
It was a flood that wrecked this...

... and you caused it...
... and you caused it...
... and you caused it...

Well I've lost it all, I'm just a silouhette,
A lifeless face that you'll soon forget,
My eyes ae damp from the words you left,
Ringing in my head, when you broke my chest.
Ringing in my head, when you broke my chest.

And if you're in love, then you are the lucky one,
'Cause most of us are bitter over someone.
Setting fire to our insides for fun,
To distract our hearts from ever missing them.
But I'm forever missing him.

And you caused it,
And you caused it,
And you caused it

Moko

I visited a lovely store in Helsinki yesterday and thought I'd share it with you guys. The store is called "Moko" and it's actually both a store and a café/restaurant. Love the concept, more places like this please! There's a quirky mix of furniture, cushions, kitchen things, paintings and clothes in Moko, and it works! Reminds me a little bit of Urban a, another really cute shop in Helsinki. The best part? They have brunch on sunday! I've never actually had brunch so thinking of trying Moko's as soon as I get the chance! The place was so cute so I had to snap a few photos, the golden mirror in the last photo is definitely my favourite!

Moko, Perämiehenkatu 10, 00150 Helsinki

Peplum

Peplum

The peplum trend was one of the biggest trends in 2012 and I think we'll see a peplum skirt or two in the upcoming spring collections of both hightstreet stores and highfashion designers. I love this look on other people, but for some reason I haven't tried the look myself. Might have to run by H&M and grab a simple peplum top in a basic colour, you know baby steps and all.

I love Coco Rocha's oriental peplum dress by Zac Posen and Blake Lively in Jason Wu for Target looks adorable as always. Dianna Agron, chanelling old hollywood glamour in Stella McCartney, looks gorgeous too. Very surprising, huh?

But I turn back when I see where you go

When you fall asleep,
with your head,
upon my shoulder.
When you're in my arms,
but you've gone somewhere deeper.

Are you going to age with grace?
Are you going to leave a path that joins?
Are you going to age with grace?
Or only to wake and hide your face.
Well..oh, oblivion.
Is calling out your name.
You always take it further,
than I ever can.

When you play it harder,
and I try to follow you there,
It's not about control,
But I turn back when I see where you go.

Are you going to age with grace?
Are you going to leave a path that joins?
Well..oh, oblivion.
Is calling out your name.
You always take it further,
than I ever can.
Oh and oh oblivion,
is calling out your name
You always take it further,
than I ever can.

Love Love Love. These illustrations by Swedish illustrator Lovisa Burfitt are so amazing. She is nowadays based in Paris and she's been working as an illustrator since she graduated from Beckmans School of Fashion in 1997. She has worked with the likes of H&M, Bloomingdales and Kenzo amongst others.
Just bought these adorable things from her collaboration with Rörstrand. I've been looking for them like crazy everywhere and yesterday I found them at Stockmann's and they were on sale, 50 % off!! So happy, I literally jumped to the cashier to pay!

Happy kid

Today is a good day because I got a job!! I'll be translating texts from finnish to swedish for a campaign by Stockmann, a big company in Finland! The funny thing is that the other person they hired for the job is a girl from my university, so there will be at least one friendly and familiar face there when I start. Such a small world! (at least if you live in Finland..)

Song of the day: Whatever Else Happens by Declan O'Rourke

"It was morning,
In a summer breeze and the sun was in the sky,
Trees were swaying,
You were beautiful and I asked you not to cry
Then the moment came for a soft farewell,
I kissed you and you shed a few,
I kept a tissue of your tears,
For a souvenir but I will take care of them for you,
What ever else happens I will come back for you,
What ever else happens I will come back for you"
